The Ijaw Association of Australia had its first gathering of all Ijaws living in South and Western Australia in the city of Perth on Saturday,21st September 2024.
The purpose of the gathering was to connect all Ijaws living in the area and to
get more members to join the Ijaw Association of Australia.
This gathering was purely an initiative of the Executives and members of the
Ijaw Association of Australia.
At the gathering speeches were made by the President, Secretary, Financial
Secretary and the media Officer. Speeches were also made by other members of the Ijaw community present.
The President Mr Suoton Dambo in his speech thanked and appreciated all
those who made the gathering to happen, he told members the vision and goal of the Ijaw Association of Australia He also acknowledged and thanked the
host the Uguemah Family.
The Secretary, Mrs Vera Alazigha, thanked Dr Ebifie Dambo for her role and support in creating the connection group; she also thanked our host the Uguemah Family and our media Officer Mrs Osi-ine Maxwell-Anga for their role in making the gathering a success.
There was some meeting of old friends and a delightful session of
refreshments followed the formal proceedings. Members shared a meal, that featured traditional dishes, adding a sense of nostalgia and cultural pride to the gathering.
The dining experience was complemented by lively discussions, networking and the fostering of bonds among attendees.
Efforts to increase membership drive through community outreach were
discussed and mention was also made of the main issues facing our members.
In closing, the President, reiterated the significance of the day as a foundational moment for the Ijaw Association of Australia. Members were encouraged to be committed financially to the Association, spread word about the Association and actively participate in future events.
The meeting adjourned with a group photo session to commemorate the day.
